A native Tucsonan born and raised in the high desert, Sandra Saenz explores the intersection of long-form psychological noir and the preservation of raw human experience. Her work refuses the “polished” narrative, choosing instead to dive into the deep, dark, and often uncomfortable truths of mental health and emotional survival. Through The Mortal Archive, she gives a voice to the shadows and a permanent record to the resilient.
The name Dr. Shock Johnson wasn’t something dreamed up in a marketing meeting. It was a gift- given to me by Robert Gonzales just days before he passed away, completely out of nowhere.
Robert was a dear friend for forty years, the one person who was always patient with me through everything. In those last days, he saw a duality in my writing that I was still trying to figure out myself-the shadows and the light. By dedicating this Archive to him, I’m honoring the man who knew exactly what to call those darker parts of my stories, and who gave me the courage to finally give them a voice.
This place belongs to his legacy just as much as it belongs to mine.
